Aliveri is a part of the Municipality of Taminaioi and is located in the south of Evoikos gulf, east of Chalkida, with which it is connected through a motorway that goes on until Karystos. It is a modern town, built amphitheatrically on hills and within a small distance from the sea. Its people are occupied in proprietary businesses, in agriculture and some of them in tourist business. The place is also well-known for the production of lignite and for the extraction of marble from the quarry, which is the most developed industry of the area. In addition, in Aliveri there is a big thermoelectrical factory that is open since 1955.
Aliveri can offer a post office, a beautiful beach, its own little port, churches and squares. If you wish to start from here in order to explore the surrounding areas there lots of beautiful places to visit such as the picturesque villages of Ai Giannis and Agios Loukas. Nearby there is also the “Nireos” coast and Karavos that attracts many tourist during the summer period. Very close to the spot, you can also visit the natural aquatic habitat of the lake Distos, where you can observe lots of different bird species. Some interesting archaeological sites can be found nearby, notably in Karavos, where the battle between Athens and Chalkida took place during the classic antiquity. Approximately 6 kilometers east of the village of Distos there is a Venetian castle, built on previous ruins of the Mycenaean age, as well as a dome-shaped Mycenaean tomb, approximately 7 kilometers southeastern, in Katakalou. |
