Aegina Island

Aegina is a very seductive, picturesque island with idyllic landscapes. It is an ideal place for your vacation, during all seasons. Many visitors also choose Aegina for a brief escape on their weekends. It definitely offers wonderful sandy beaches and amazing natural beauty for your pleasure.

The first thing you will notice as you come into port are beautiful fishing boats, brightly colored yellow and pink facade houses, blue domed churches, stone paved alleys and the peculiar white washed Church of Agios Nikolaos.

The metropolis, the orphanage, the government house, the ruins of the post-Roman fortification, the sanctuary of Ellanios Zeus, the baluster of the Doric sanctuary of Apollo are must see sights. The spectacular temple of Aphaia, the archaeological and folklore museum, the temple of Hellanios Dias (Zeus), Kapralo's museum (with art and sculpture), Palaia Hora (Byzantine Aegina) and the Aghios Nektarios Monastery are also interesting places that you won’t want to miss out on visiting.

The coastal village of Agia Marina is where the renowned Doric sanctuary of Athina Afea dominates in dignity. Paleohora, a ruined town that used to be the capital of the island, has 28 churches full of magnificent stone icon screen and wall paintings as well as a ruined medieval castle and two superb monasteries.

Perdika, famous for its crystal clean beaches and Vaia are two picturesque fishing villages that you’ll want to visit. Relax on the beautiful beaches of Marathonas and Aeginitissa. Travel to the coastal village of Souvala and experience its healing hot springs. Aiginitissa is the trendiest beach on Aegina Island, with its huge trees. There are sun beds and umbrellas available here too.

Some of the activities, which are available to you, are: scuba diving, horse drawn carriage rides and Tai Chi Chuan lessons. Go shopping for handmade jewelry, handbags, clothes (“Earth” collection and Olympic products), hats, beachwear and accessories, handmade ceramics, flowers and authentic Greek souvenirs. Make sure you buy enough postcards and gifts for your friends and family who weren‘t fortunate enough to vacation with you. There is even a supermarket, where you will find everything else that you might need.

For your culinary delights, there are many restaurants, coffee shops, tavernas, a pizzeria, an English Garden Wine Bar and a combination Waterfront Cafe/Bar/Traditional English Pub. Also, don’t forget to visit the oldest confectionery business on the island, right on the waterfront, for some amazing sweets.

As far as the nightlife goes, at sunset, the harbor scene gets livelier and everyone seems to come out for an evening walk. There is a piano restaurant, which offers live pop music. If you’re looking for a more traditional scene, try the portside ouzeri. For more sedentary entertainment, there are two outdoor cinemas, the Akroyiali and Olympia.

There are numerous apartments, studios, rooms, hotels, townhouses and villas waiting to offer you the very best in lodging accommodations for a wonderful stay. Also available to rent is a two floor residence, surrounded by gorgeous pistachios and olive trees in the small village of Kipseli.

Play all day and then enjoy some of the most majestic sunsets in the entire Mediterranean. It will awaken your senses and create sweet and pleasant memories. Come, the ultimate Greek vacation awaits you.
