GENERAL INFORMATION |
|
|
Gennadi is a quiet coastal village within a distance of 60 kilometres from the City of Rhodes and 55 kilometres from “Diagoras” airport. Here you will be able to relax and enjoy your holiday in the sun. It is a relatively small village of approximately 500 round-the-year inhabitants, also constituting the seat of the municipality of South Rhodes. The village was named after Gennadis, a landholder of the district during the years of the Turkish rule. Among its narrow alleys you will discover the traditional insular houses with their tall walls and blooming courtyards. Gennadi is mostly known for its exquisite beach, however those who enjoy sightseeing will be able to find some places of particular interest, notably the traditional olive oil press, the church of Agios Ioannis Theologos and the church of Agia Anastasia, which was constructed by using building material from a demolished tower built by the Knights. In the village you will be also able to find some taverns serving traditional cuisine recipes , tourist shops selling souvenirs and a supermarket.
